You apply on the Passport Seva portal, show your documents at a Passport Seva Kendra, and after police verification the passport comes home by Speed Post.

First check on the Tatkaal Passports page that Tatkaal is open to you. It is not for some groups, such as a change of name, an address outside the Passport Office's area, children with Annexure 'C', children of a single parent, or adopted children. Apply only when you have all the Tatkaal documents: otherwise the application is put on hold.

On the Passport Seva portal, click "Register", fill in the details and "Sign Up". Confirm your email address from the mail and log in. Choose "Hyderabad" as the Passport Office for Telangana.

Under "Services", open "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport". Fill in the passport type (normal or Tatkaal), applicant, family, address, emergency contact and other details, and submit. You get an Application Reference Number (ARN). You cannot change it after submitting, so check it first.

Click "View" → "Pay and Schedule Appointment" and pay online (card, net banking or UPI). Then pick a date at a nearby Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). The details come by SMS.

💰 Fee: ₹2,500 · ₹2,500 for a 36-page passport; ₹3,500 for 60 pages (from 1 July 2026). People over 60 get 10% off the fee for a fresh passport. The fee is valid for a year and is not refunded.

Click "View" → "Pay and Schedule Appointment" and pay the full Tatkaal fee online. Then pick a date at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK): Post Office Kendras do not take Tatkaal. A Tatkaal appointment can be rescheduled only once.

On the appointment day, go to the Kendra yourself with the original documents and one set of self-attested copies. Your photo and fingerprints are taken there; you do not need to bring a photo. Laptops and cameras are not allowed inside.

On the appointment day, take the child to the Kendra: even a baby must be there in person. Both parents come, or one parent with both parents' passports. Take the original documents and self-attested copies; parents can attest the child's documents.

The police verify your details at the address in the form. For most fresh passports this happens before the passport is issued; for Tatkaal, usually after it is issued. The Passport Office decides which.

The passport comes by Speed Post to the present address in the form; it cannot be collected from the office. It is best to take it from the postman yourself.

• Size: 35 × 45 mm (width × height)
• Background: White
• In colour
• Only the head and the top of the shoulders, taken close: the face fills 80–85% of the photo. The whole head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, centred, looking straight at the camera.
• Eyes open and clearly visible, with no hair across them.
• Even lighting: no shadows on the face or background, no flash glare, no red eye.
• A natural expression, natural skin tones, proper brightness and contrast.
• No head covering except for religious reasons, and then the face from chin to forehead and both edges must show.
• Children of 4 and over, and adults, need no photo: it is taken at the Kendra.

If something goes wrong

If it is rejected
If the application is rejected, log in to the portal and appeal under "Log appeal": pay the ₹25 fee online and upload a copy of the Passport Office's order. If the Kendra refuses you a token for missing documents, you can go back to the same Kendra with them.

If it is late
If the charter time has passed, complain under "Feedback / Grievance" on Passport Seva, on CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in), or call 1800-258-1800. If Speed Post returns the passport, apply to the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad, with proof of your present address, to send it again. If it is still not solved, you can complain to the Directorate of Public Grievances, Cabinet Secretariat.

If you are asked for more money
The fee is paid only online on the portal. Do not trust touts or agents who promise a quick appointment or passport: the government has authorised no one to do this. Report them to the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad.
