Getting a new Aadhaar

Getting a new Aadhaar
You enrol for free at an Aadhaar centre, keep the enrolment slip, and download your Aadhaar once it is ready.
For whom: Anyone living in Telangana who has never had an Aadhaar, from a newborn baby to an adult. If you had an Aadhaar and lost it, see the guide on lost documents.
Published on 30-10-2026. Not every fact has been checked against its official source yet: confirm at the office.

For everyone

1.
Find the nearest Aadhaar centre on UIDAI's centre locator (Bhuvan Aadhaar). Aadhaar centres are run in banks, post offices, BSNL and State Government offices. UIDAI's own Aadhaar Seva Kendras in Telangana are in Hyderabad (Moosarambagh Metro Station), Madhapur (Reliance Cyber Ville) and Hanamkonda (KU Cross). They are open all 7 days except holidays, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Not confirmed: Telangana district websites (for example Wanaparthy) show some MeeSeva centres as Aadhaar centres, but we found no State list of which MeeSeva centres do Aadhaar enrolment. Check the UIDAI locator before you go.

Only if

Who needs the Aadhaar, and how old are they? 18 or older
2.
New enrolment of people over 18 is not done at every centre: only at UIDAI's Aadhaar Seva Kendras and certain designated centres. On the locator, choose a centre marked "All enrolment (including 18+)".

3.
If you are going to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, you can book a time first on UIDAI's appointment portal. Booking is free and needs no Aadhaar-linked mobile. One person can book at most 2 appointments a month, and can change one up to 24 hours before. Walk-ins also get a token.
💻 Online

💰 Fee: Free · Booking is free.
Not confirmed: We did not see the appointment portal's screens. Other Aadhaar centres (banks, post offices) keep their own hours; ask there whether they take bookings.

8.
Before you sign, check that the name, date of birth, gender and address shown on the screen are right in English and in Telugu. Ask for any mistake to be fixed then. A mobile number is not compulsory, but give your own (not the operator's or anyone else's): Aadhaar status messages and OTPs go to it.
🏛️ Aadhaar centre (Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment centre)
9.
Take the acknowledgement slip and keep it safe. It carries your enrolment number (EID): 14 digits followed by the date and time. It is not your Aadhaar number; you need it to check the status and for any later correction. Take back all your original documents.
🏛️ Aadhaar centre (Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment centre)
10.
On the myAadhaar portal, under "Check Enrolment & Update Status", enter the enrolment number (EID) with its date and time to see whether your Aadhaar is ready. You can also call 1947 (toll-free).

11.
Once your Aadhaar is ready, download e-Aadhaar on the myAadhaar portal with your enrolment number or Aadhaar number; an OTP comes to the mobile you gave at enrolment. e-Aadhaar is as valid as the Aadhaar letter. The PDF password is the first 4 letters of your name in capitals, then your year of birth. The Aadhaar letter also comes to your address by ordinary post. If you gave no mobile, an Aadhaar centre can download it after a fingerprint check and give a colour print (₹40).
💻 Online

💰 Fee: Free · Downloading online is free. Download and colour print at a centre costs ₹40.
Not confirmed: The Aadhaar Seva Kendra page (October 2026) gives ₹40 for the print at a centre; UIDAI's FAQ page still says ₹30. Check the amount on your receipt.

Only if

Who needs the Aadhaar, and how old are they? A child under 5 / Someone aged 5 to 17
12.
A child enrolled before 5 must have the biometrics (photo, fingerprints, irises) updated at an Aadhaar centre on turning 5, and every child again on turning 15. The Aadhaar number stays the same. This update is done on its own, not together with other changes.
🏛️ Aadhaar centre (Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment centre)
💰 Fee: Free · Free the first time between ages 5 and 7, and the first or second time between 15 and 17. Also free between 7 and 15 until 30 September 2027. Otherwise ₹125.

You cannot get this

A child under 5 gets Aadhaar only on the basis of the mother's, father's or legal guardian's Aadhaar. If none of them has an Aadhaar, the child cannot be enrolled.
Instead, see:
First the mother or father must enrol for Aadhaar. In this guide, choose the age "18 or older" to see those steps.

If it is rejected
If an SMS says your enrolment was rejected, check the status on myAadhaar to see why (mismatched documents, wrong details, an invalid document and the like). Enrol again with the right documents. For questions call 1947 or e-mail help@uidai.gov.in.

If it is late
If the Aadhaar has not come after 30 days for a child or 180 days for an adult, file a complaint with your enrolment number (EID) on the myAadhaar grievance page, or call 1947. Do not enrol again: if the first enrolment produced an Aadhaar, every later attempt is rejected. You can also contact UIDAI's Regional Office at Ameerpet, Hyderabad (reception 040-23739269).
