Passport
You apply on the Passport Seva portal and show your documents at a Kendra under the Visakhapatnam or Vijayawada Passport Office; after police verification the passport comes home by Speed Post.
For whom: Adults and children living in Andhra Pradesh getting their first passport (normal or Tatkaal).
Published on 30-10-2026. Not every fact has been checked against its official source yet: confirm at the office.
Answer a few questions to see which steps apply to you. The whole guide is below.

Documents you need

•
Proof of your present address
original and a copy
Any one of: Aadhaar (letter, card, or e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website), water bill, telephone bill (landline or postpaid mobile), electricity bill, income tax assessment order, Election Commission photo ID card, gas connection bill, rent agreement, photo passbook of a running account in a public or private scheduled bank or a regional rural bank, your spouse's passport copy (if it has the same address), or a few others in the Instruction Booklet. For a child, an address proof in the parents' name is enough.
If you don't have it:
→ Getting a new Aadhaar
•
Proof of date of birth
original and a copy
For anyone born on or after 1 October 2023, only the birth certificate is accepted. For anyone born before that, any one of: birth certificate, transfer / school leaving / matriculation certificate of the last school, PAN card, an extract of the service record or the pension order (government servants), driving licence from the State Transport Department, Election Commission voter ID, or an insurance policy bond from LIC or a public company. The PAN card, service record, driving licence and voter ID count only if they show the exact date of birth.
•
Class 10 or higher certificate (if you have one)
original and a copy
People who studied up to class 10 or beyond, people over 50, income tax payers and gazetted government servants, among others, get "Non-ECR" status, and must show proof of it. Without proof, "ECR" is printed on the last page of the passport, and you then need clearance from the Protector of Emigrants before going to certain countries for work.
•
Extra identity documents for Tatkaal
original and a copy
Adults: any 3 from this list; children: any 2 of items 1 to 6. (1) Aadhaar: PVC card, the complete original letter, or e-Aadhaar with a verified digital signature (small cut-out cards printed elsewhere are not accepted), (2) PAN card, (3) student photo ID from a recognised institution, (4) birth certificate, (5) up-to-date ration card, (6) last passport (re-issue only), (7) voter ID, (8) driving licence valid in the state where you apply, (9) bank, Kisan or post office passbook with your photo attested and the latest transactions entered, (10) SC / ST / OBC certificate, (11) arms licence, (12) pension documents (an old age pension order too), (13) employee photo ID from a government, public sector unit, local body or public limited company. Name, date of birth and father's name must be the same in all of them, and at least one must show the address in the form.
•
The Tatkaal undertaking ("Undertaking for Tatkaal Scheme")
original
If you don't have it:
The form, in Hindi and English, is on the "Tatkaal Passports" page of Passport Seva. Fill it in, sign it and take it with you.
•
Annexure 'D': the parents' declaration
original
On plain paper, as in the specimen, signed by both mother and father. A legal guardian attaches a copy of the court order. If one parent does not consent, Annexure 'C' is given instead, and Tatkaal is then not possible.
If you don't have it:
The specimen is on the "Annexures/Affidavits" page of Passport Seva.
•
The parents' passports (if they have them)
original and a copy
The original passports and self-attested copies. If a parent holds a passport that has the spouse's name in it, and Annexure 'D' is given, a child usually needs no police verification. The Passport Office has the final say.
•
A recent colour photo of the child (children under 4 only)
original
📷 What the photo must look like
← 35 mm →
↕ 45 mm
• Size: 35 × 45 mm (width × height)
• Background: White
• In colour
• Only the head and the top of the shoulders, taken close: the face fills 80–85% of the photo. The whole head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, centred, from the front, looking straight at the camera.
• The child's eyes must be open and easy to see; keep hair away from them.
• Even light: no shadows on the face or the background, no flash reflections, no red eye.
• A natural expression and natural skin tones, with proper brightness and contrast.
• No head covering except for religious reasons, and then the face from chin to forehead and both sides must show.
• Children of 4 or older, and adults, need no photo: it is taken at the Kendra.

1.
First check on the "Tatkaal Passports" page that Tatkaal is open to you. It is not for some cases, such as a change of name, an address outside the office's area, children with Annexure 'C', children of a single parent, or adopted children. Apply only once you have all the Tatkaal documents in hand.
