Property tax / house tax: paying it and changing the name

Property tax / house tax: paying it and changing the name
You pay the property tax on your house and keep the receipt, or get your name put on the tax record of a house you bought or inherited.
For whom: Anyone who owns a house or building in Telangana: in Hyderabad (GHMC, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri corporations), in another municipality, or in a gram panchayat.
Published on 30-10-2026. Not every fact has been checked against its official source yet: confirm at the office.

Documents you need

If you don't have it:
It is on an old receipt. In Hyderabad you can also search with the mobile number registered with the tax.
Not confirmed: GHMC's papers ask for it under section 208 of the old GHMC Act. Ask at the circle office whether it is still needed under the new 2026 Act.

If something goes wrong

If it is rejected
In a municipality, if you think the tax is wrong, give a revision petition to the Commissioner within 60 days of the notice; the Commissioner must decide within 30 days. You can appeal against that decision to the Regional Director of Municipal Administration within 30 days. The CDMA portal has "Revision Petition" and "Appeal Petition". In Hyderabad, give the revision petition at the circle office.

If it is late
In Hyderabad, if the name change takes more than 30 days, complain on the GHMC grievance portal or to the helpline 040-21111111. Elsewhere, complain online on Prajavani, or at the Prajavani grievance day at your District Collectorate.

If you are asked for more money
The tax is only what the portal shows. Take a computer receipt for every payment; in Hyderabad, tax collection and receipts are all computerised, with no manual transactions. If you are asked for more, complain on the GHMC grievance portal or on Prajavani.
