Where is the house? In a village: under a gram panchayat
11.
At the gram panchayat office, ask the Panchayat Secretary in writing for a tap connection to your house.
🏛️ Your gram panchayat office (Panchayat Secretary)
Not confirmed: The Panchayat Raj Act makes drinking water works a gram panchayat duty, but we found no official page giving the procedure, documents or fee for a house connection in a village (the Mission Bhagiratha website did not open on 30 October 2026). Ask the Secretary what to bring and what to pay, and keep a receipt for any payment.

Documents you need

If you don't have it:
The receipt you get when you pay property tax to the municipality. The assessment number has 10 digits. It is uploaded on the portal as a PDF.
→ Property tax / house tax: paying it and changing the name
If you don't have it:
→ Income certificate
Not confirmed: The portal requires this document for some kinds of connection and not for others; which ones is not shown before you log in.
Not confirmed: The portal requires this form as a PDF, but we found its format on no official page (the "Water Tap Connection Application Procedure" link gave an error on 30 October 2026). Ask the municipal office for the format.
If you don't have it:
→ Permission to build a house

If something goes wrong

If it is rejected
If the application is rejected, ask for the reason. In a municipality, complain at the Citizen Services Centre of the municipal office; for the Water Board, use "Register New Connection Grievances" on its website. If that does not help, complain on Prajavani.
Prajavani (the government's grievance system)
prajavani.cgg.gov.in ↗
Not confirmed: We found no official source naming an appeal authority for a rejected connection. The Prajavani website did not open on 30 October 2026.
If it is late
If the connection takes too long: for the Water Board, complain under "Register New Connection Grievances"; in a municipality, at the Citizen Services Centre. Then complain on Prajavani online, or at the Prajavani grievance day at your District Collectorate.
Prajavani (the government's grievance system)

Not confirmed: We could not read an official time limit for a new connection (the Water Board's "Timelines for New Connection" page did not open; CGG says municipal time limits are in Schedule III of the Act, which we could not find). The grievance day may differ by district (Monday in Nalgonda and Hyderabad).
If you are asked for more money
G.O.Rt.No.372 says one house connection costs ₹1 in a municipality for a household with a yearly income below ₹2 lakh and no tap. If you are asked for more, ask for a receipt and complain to the Municipal Commissioner or on Prajavani.
