Old-age pension (Cheyutha)

Old-age pension (Cheyutha)
Who can get Telangana's monthly old-age pension (Cheyutha), which documents you need and where to apply.
For whom: Elderly people from poor families in Telangana, and family members helping them.
Published on 30-10-2026. Not every fact has been checked against its official source yet: confirm at the office.

For everyone

1.
Ask the Panchayat Secretary (in a village) or the municipal Bill Collector (in a town) whether old-age pension applications are being taken now.
🏛️ Gram panchayat office or municipal office
Not confirmed: The Cheyutha application form SERP put up in August 2026 has boxes only for widow, disabled, toddy tapper, weaver, dialysis, filaria and single women; there is no old-age box. The guidelines for that round are not published on the SERP website or the government orders site. We found no official notice saying when new old-age applications will be taken again. Ask at the office or the district pension officer (APO).
2.
When applications are open, give the filled form, your photo and photocopies of the documents to the Panchayat Secretary or VRO (in a village) or the Bill Collector (in a town).

Not confirmed: The officials named here are from the 2014 order. In 2026 officials enter applications on the Cheyutha website. Ask at the office where old-age applications are to be given in the next round.
3.
Wait for the check. The Panchayat Secretary (in a village) or the Bill Collector (in a town) checks your details. They may also look at how your family lives and what it owns.
✋ You do this yourself
4.
Wait for the decision. The MPDO (in a village) or the Municipal Commissioner (in a town; the Deputy Commissioner in GHMC areas) reviews it, and the District Collector gives final approval.

5.
On the Cheyutha website, open 'New Sanctions Applicants Search' and look up your application by its application ID or Aadhaar number.

6.
After the Collector's approval, collect your pension card with your photo on it. The MPDO arranges for it to be given out.

7.
Collect the pension between the 1st and 7th of each month. It is paid into your bank or post office account; at the pay point you confirm with your fingerprint or iris. Under the 2019 order the old-age pension is ₹2,016 a month.
🏦 At the bank
Not confirmed: ₹2,016 is the amount in G.O.Ms.No.34 of 2019, the latest order we could read; we did not check whether it has changed since. The 1st-to-7th schedule is from the 2014 order. Ask the MPDO office for the current amount and dates.

You cannot get this

The old-age pension needs you to be at least 57. The 2014 order set the age at 65.
Instead, see:
If you are a widow, a single woman, a person with a disability, a weaver or a toddy tapper, ask at the office about those pensions.
Not confirmed: The age of 57 is said to come from G.O.Ms.No.36 of 04-08-2021; we did not see an official copy. Under either rule, people under 57 do not qualify.

You cannot get this

This pension is not given if the household's yearly income is over ₹1,50,000 in a village or ₹2,00,000 in a town (G.O.Ms.No.23 of 2014).

You cannot get this

People from a family that has any of these cannot get this pension (G.O.Ms.No.17 of 2014). The application form also makes you declare that your family has none of them.

You cannot get this

Apart from widow's and disability pensions, only one person per household gets a pension, preferably a woman (G.O.Ms.No.17 of 2014).

Documents you need

If you don't have it:
Ask at the panchayat or municipal office. The Cheyutha website has Telugu and English forms under 'Cheyutha Application Forms'.
Not confirmed: The form on the website (August 2026) has no 'old age' box. Ask at the office which form to use for the old-age pension.
If you don't have it:

If you don't have it:
→ Income certificate

If something goes wrong

If it is rejected
If your application is rejected, ask the MPDO or Municipal Commissioner's office why. Your district pension officer's (APO's) phone number is on the Cheyutha website under 'APOs Contact Details'.

Not confirmed: The orders we read set out no appeal. The APO list gives phone numbers only; it does not say the APOs take complaints.
If it is late
Even if you are eligible, the pension may not start at once. Eligible people still waiting are listed in the panchayat's 'B register'. When a place falls vacant, the oldest come first, then SC/ST people, landless people and women. Check your application status on the website, and call the district APO if it is taking long.

If your pension stops, open 'Search Pensioner Details' on the Cheyutha website and look yourself up by pension ID or Aadhaar number. Then call the district APO.

Also
You can also register a complaint by calling the Rural Development Call Center (toll-free 1800-200-1001). You get a message with a 'Problem ID', and you can follow it under 'Know Your Status' on the call centre's website. The call centre passes the complaint to the officials concerned; they are the ones who resolve it.

Not confirmed: The call centre's website says it takes complaints about Rural Development schemes, but its online complaint form lists only NREGS and VBGRAMG; nothing says clearly that it takes pension complaints. Ask when you call.
Not confirmed: The 2014 order (G.O.Ms.No.17) sets the age at 65 or more. News reports and a copy of a SERP circular on an unofficial site say G.O.Ms.No.36 of 04-08-2021 lowered it to 57. That order is not published on the government orders site (goir), and we found no official copy. If you are 57 to 64, ask at the mandal or municipal office whether you qualify.
