Link PAN with Aadhaar
Aadhaar gets joined to your PAN, and an "inoperative" PAN comes back into use.
For whom: For PAN holders in Andhra Pradesh: when you are unsure whether it is linked, when the PAN shows as "inoperative", or when a name or date of birth mismatch blocks the link.

Steps

For everyone
1.
If your PAN was allotted on or before 1 July 2017 and you are eligible for Aadhaar, you are required to give your Aadhaar number and have it joined to the PAN. If the PAN was issued against an Aadhaar Enrolment ID rather than the number, it now has to be joined using the real Aadhaar number. A new PAN application joins Aadhaar there and then; nothing more is needed.
✋ You do this yourself
Not confirmed: The portal's FAQs base these rules on section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961 and Notification No. 37/2017. No official page we found restates them under the 2025 Act that took effect on 1 April 2026. For PANs issued against an Enrolment ID the last date was 31 December 2025; those not joined stop working from 1 January 2026.
2.
Some people do not have to do this: anyone who turned 80 at any time during the previous year (the tax year); non-residents under the Income-tax Act; people who are not Indian citizens; residents of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya. Andhra Pradesh is not one of these states. A PAN held by someone in these groups keeps working without the link. If they still want to link, they pay the set fee and do the same steps below.

3.
Without logging in, open "Link Aadhaar Status" from Quick Links on the portal home page. Give the PAN and Aadhaar numbers and press "View Link Aadhaar Status". A message that the two are already joined means you are done.

4.
Get the name or date of birth in Aadhaar changed to match the PAN first. In Andhra Pradesh, the AP Seva services at village and ward secretariats include the Aadhaar "Demographic Update"; Aadhaar enrolment centres do it too. Move on to the fee and link steps only once Aadhaar shows the new details.

Not confirmed: The list of secretariat services is from the Anakapalli district website; it does not say every secretariat has the Aadhaar service. The charge and papers for the Aadhaar change are not given here; ask there.

5.
If the mistake is in the PAN record, get it corrected through an agency. On Protean's site the application type is "Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data / Reprint of PAN Card"; on UTIITSL's (pan.utiitsl.com) it is "Change/Correction in PAN Card". Write the name and date of birth exactly as Aadhaar has them; the new card carries the Aadhaar name. The fee and link steps come after the PAN record has changed.

6.
Open "Link Aadhaar" from Quick Links on the home page, give the PAN and Aadhaar, and press "Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax". Give the PAN, the PAN again and any mobile number you have, and confirm with the OTP. On the e-Pay Tax page press "Proceed" on the "Income Tax" tile, then choose the Assessment Year and "Other Receipts (500)"; the amount due shows up by itself. Once the challan is made, choosing a payment method opens the bank's site; pay there.

8.
After a few days, look at "Link Aadhaar Status" again. If UIDAI is still checking it, wait a while more and look again. "Verify Your PAN" on the portal also tells you whether the PAN is active.

If something goes wrong

If it is rejected
If the link will not go through because the name, date of birth or phone number do not match, change either the PAN or Aadhaar until the two agree. If it still fails, Protean and UTIITSL PAN centres can do the link with biometric Aadhaar authentication. Bring the PAN, Aadhaar and a copy of the challan for the ₹1,000 fee; the centre charges extra for the biometric service. UTIITSL's branches in the state: Vijayawada (0866 6617199) and Tirupati (0877 2288559). UTIITSL's list of PAN centres with biometric devices has centres in most Andhra Pradesh districts.

Not confirmed: No official page gives the biometric service charge. UTIITSL says biometric linking is at its "Branch Offices" without naming Vijayawada or Tirupati. Its centre list also shows some old district names and some Telangana towns under Andhra Pradesh. Phone before going to ask whether the service is there and what it costs.
Also
If the portal says another Aadhaar is joined to your PAN, or another PAN to your Aadhaar, apply to your Jurisdictional Assessing Officer to remove the wrong link. The portal's "Know Your AO" tells you who that officer is.

If it is late
If the status reads "in progress" with the request sitting at UIDAI, wait and look again. If 30 days go by with no link, phone the e-Filing helpdesk.

If the portal cannot see the fee you paid, let 4-5 working days pass. If it is still missing, phone the helpdesk; for e-Pay Tax trouble you can write to epay.helpdesk@incometax.gov.in.

Also
What happens to an "inoperative" PAN: tax refunds due to you are held back; no refund interest is paid for that time; TDS and TCS are collected from you at a higher rate. It stays so until the PAN works again. People in the exempt groups are not affected. Paying the ₹1,000 fee and linking Aadhaar (the steps above) makes the PAN work again.

If you are asked for more money
No agent is needed for this: you can do it yourself on the portal without logging in. The fee goes by e-Pay Tax challan straight to the Income Tax Department, and the portal shows the amount. If someone offering to do the linking asks for anything on top, refuse.
