Sukanya Samriddhi Account (for a girl)
Who can open a Sukanya Samriddhi Account for a girl, where and with which documents; how much to deposit each year; and when money can be taken out for her education or the account closed.
For whom: Parents and guardians of girls under ten in Telangana; and girls who already have this account, and their families.
Published on 30-10-2026. Not every fact has been checked against its official source yet: confirm at the office.

What do you want to do? Open a new account
1.
Decide where to open the account: at a post office, or at a bank branch that runs the scheme. A girl may have only one account under this scheme.
🏛️ Post office or bank branch
Not confirmed: We did not find a current official list of the banks that run the scheme. Ask at your bank branch.
2.
Fill in Form-1 and hand it in with the documents. One of the girl's guardians opens the account in her name.
🏛️ Post office or bank branch
📎 Account opening application (Form-1), The girl's birth certificate, The guardian's Aadhaar number, The guardian's PAN card or Form 60, A recent passport-size photograph of the guardian
Not confirmed: The scheme only says "one of the guardians". News reports describe 2024 government guidelines under which accounts opened by grandparents who are not legal guardians must be moved to a parent or legal guardian; we did not find the official text. If someone other than a parent is opening the account, ask first.

Only if

Were twin or triplet girls born at the family's first or second birth, and is this girl one of them? (If the first birth already gave two or more surviving girls, this exception does not cover girls of the second birth.) Yes
3.
For a third account, also give the guardian's affidavit about the twins or triplets, with their birth certificates.

6.
If ₹250 is not deposited in some year, the account goes into "default". Any time before 15 years are complete, you can set it right by paying ₹250 plus a ₹50 penalty for each missed year.

7.
Interest is credited once a year, when the financial year ends; check it in the passbook. Each month's interest is worked out on the lowest balance between the close of the 5th and the end of the month. From 1 October to 31 December 2026 the rate is 8.2% a year; the Finance Ministry announces the rates every quarter.
