If something goes wrong
If it is rejected
If the Registrar refuses to register a Hindu marriage, the refusal must be a written order with reasons. You can appeal against it to the Registrar General (the Commissioner and Inspector General of Registration and Stamps), who hears both parties; that order is final.

If it is late
By the citizen's charter the certificate is due within an hour of both of you signing the register, with a penalty of ₹10 an hour on the Sub-Registrar for delay. If it is late, ask the District Registrar, or call the department's toll-free number, 1800 599 4788.

The Hindu marriage registration fee is ₹200 (none for an inter-caste marriage). The Registrar must give a receipt (Form E) for every fee paid at the office. If you are asked for more, ask for the receipt and complain on the department's toll-free number.

If a key detail on the certificate is wrong (a name, age, date or place), it is not changed in the register without the sanction of the Inspecting Officer and the District Registrar. The department itself says this is cumbersome, so check everything on the day of registration.
